Tutankhamun or Nefertiti?

Tutankhamun or Nefertiti?
Egyptologist Dr Nicholas Reeves discusses his hypothesis that the famous gold mask of Tutankhamun may have originally been made for a ruler called Ankhkheperure Neferneferuaten, or as most people know her: Nefertiti.

Dr Reeves presented this idea at a symposium at the Metropolitan Museum of art in 2011. (https://youtu.be/bxN1hm1TmJ0)

In the short publication linked below he discusses a cartouche on the gold mask which appears to have been recut to reflect its new owner's name.

  1. Richard Green I don't know enough about Hinduism to make a comparison, but Egyptian deities had many 'aspects' and forms which embodied their roles and spheres of influence and these changed according to locale, relevance to State and over thousands of years.

To remain on the topic of Re, this deity was commonly represented by the scarab, a winged sun disk, a ram and a falcon (among others) while the Litany of Re lists 74 further forms of the god.

Egyptian gods could also manifest or be 'present' in other ways, including as real or mythological animals, (Apis/Mnevis Bull) by sound (Goose) or even weather phenomena. (Lightning, dew, storm and wind).

  2. Dolly Mohamed Doddy I think there is a lot more work to be done to shed light on this poorly understood period of Egyptian history.

I also don't agree with everything Dr Reeves suggests regarding KV62, but I think that some of his points do need further investigation and that re-examining the evidence with new technology could help us to explain more fully what happened between the reign of Akhenaton and Tutankhamun.

    I miss you too :)
